Last week was Freedom and Democracy week at the University of Toronto. On Thursday March 8th I perticipated in a panel discussion "Democracy Movements Abroad: Refusing to take Freedom for Granted" I spoke about womens rights and womens movement in Iran. There were also speakers on Tibet, Taiwan and Lebenon and the pro-democracy movements in that country. There was also another Iranian speaker Hassan Zarazadeh Ardeshir who spoke about the student movement in Iran. The panel was moderated by the President of Canadian Coalition for Democracies Alister Gordon. The panel questions were about how the Canadian foreign policy should change to help the pro-democracy movements in these countries.
This was a great opportunity to speak out about the pro-democracy movement in Iran and make suggestions on what the Canadian Government could do to help us achieve our goals.
